Forecast thermal demand and generation headroom (MW) at every NPg primary substation and supply point, per DFES 2026 pathway, for each year 2026–2035 and 2040, 2045, 2050.

What is withheld, and why

Nothing is withheld. Values are served with the attribution the licence asks for: Supported by Northern Powergrid Open Data. Keep it with any figure you show.

NPg's licence (based on OGL v3.0) asks for the statement to be displayed prominently and, where possible, a link to the licence. It excludes personal data and third-party rights; neither is in these datasets.

NPg Network Development Plan — Network Headroom Report (DFES 2026)

gb_npg_nhr_2026 · v2026-04

Demand and generation headroom (available capacity) in MW per reported year per DFES pathway, at each primary substation and supply point; thermal loading and fault level constraints considered; financially approved network developments included.

The operator’s own caveats

  • Constraints at Grid Supply Points (GSPs) fall outside the NDP scope and are not included in our headroom assessments.
  • Headroom results do not include capacity released through Active Network Management (ANM).
  • Headroom forecasts remain subject to change as customer generation and demand evolve
  • NPg does not accept any liability for the accuracy of the information contained herein

notes
["Wide format: one column per forecast year (demand_headroom_capacity_mw_<year>, generation_headroom_capacity_mw_<year>); each becomes a target_year series with the DFES pathway as scenario, spelled as NPg spells it (\"DFES 2026 - Holistic Transition\").","The field description of scenario_name still lists the 2023 National Grid FES names; the values are the DFES 2026 pathways.","NPg states the method (thermal loading and fault level; approved reinforcement included; ANM and GSP constraints excluded) but not a firmness: firmness is unknown.","substation_location is a postcode, kept as the asset's postcode. geo_point_2d is the portal's centre of the downstream-area polygon, not the substation, and is not used as its location; the polygons themselves are not fetched.","No substation code is published: licence area, level (Primary / Supply Point) and substation name make the identity, shared by the demand and generation twins."]
